This is a genuine U.S. Civil War Officer's Federal Model 1851 Regulation Plate Belt Buckle with a small fragment of the original belt still attached to the catch. The buckle is missing about 50% of the officer’s wreath.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe leather fragment shows a good patina, and this would look great displayed with the catch attached and the belt fragment. The number \u003cstrong\u003e1 24\u003c\/strong\u003e is stamped into the reverse of the buckle. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe regulation 1851 pattern, brass, eagle waist belt plate is the rectangular, concave, detailed plate that measures approximately 83 mm long x 53 mm high,the cast brass plate has an integral tongue on the reverse and the one-piece, nickel-silver wreath terminating beneath the eagle’s wings. The wreath is roughly 50% retained with heavy loss.
