Only One Available. This is a great example of a Civil War Federal Issue belt rig including a partial Enlisted Man’s Waist belt with a Model 1839 Belt Buckle, which has a scarce “Arrow Back”, a great M1855/61 .58 Caliber Cartridge Box without box plate, and a Federal cap pouch with the original vent pick inside. The belt itself is broken off on the end and is missing the end piece for the closure of the belt.

The M1855/61 .58 Caliber Cartridge Box retains both of its original tins, but it is missing the original cartridge box plate. The interior is stamped with a very large stamp for J. BOYD & SONS OF BOSTON, MANUFACTURERS OF ARMY ACCOUTREMENTS with a 12 stamped over that. Condition of the cartridge box is rather excellent with some heavy loss of the leather finish on the flap. The securing strap is retained along with the knob, both roller buckles are intact and the inner flaps are in great shape.

The cap pouch is in good condition but the securing strap is entirely broken off, though it still sits on the knob for display. It could probably be restitched if someone wished to do so. The interior of the cap pouch retains some of the wool along with the original vent pick!

The waist belt is broken off at one end as shown, with two maker’s stamps at the break, which may have contributed to the weakness that led it to break. The condition of the buckle is good and it was not excavated (not dug up). This die-stuck specimen has the large raised letters "US" on the face and exhibits a heavily worn dark bronze patina overall. The backside of the plate, complete with its brass hooks all intact, is lead filled and in good condition with some residue as shown. The belt has heavy rubbing and loss of finish but is still solid besides the end.

An outstanding set, ready for further research and display.

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-civil-war-m1855-61-58-caliber-cartridge-box-belt-rig-with-u-s-arrowhead-buckle-partial-waist-belt-with-cap-pouch
