The photo is period colorized, a true work of art.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe image is behind glass held in an ornate brass mat loaded with intricate patriotic designs edging the tintype, including American flags, cannons, and the phrase\u003cstrong\u003e THE UNION NOW AND FOREVER\u003c\/strong\u003e. A leatherette case molded front and back with an ornate pattern. Interior of the case is lined in velvet type material. It was formed on July 16, 1861, at Fort Independence in Boston, Massachusetts. Its original commander was Colonel Samuel H. Leonard. The regiment lost during service four officers and 117 enlisted men who were killed or mortally wounded as well as 40 enlisted men by disease. The total of those who died in service was 161.
