  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Federal 1839 Pattern Brass Belt Plate Buckle, made from the standard lead-filled cast brass. It had a lovely patina on the front side, and has later wartime pattern brass "arrowhead" style attachment studs on the reverse. The plate measures measures approximately 3 3/8” x 2 1/8”.

The condition is very good and was not excavated (not dug up). This die-stuck specimen has the large raised letters "US" on the face and exhibits a wonderful dark bronze patina overall. The backside of the plate, complete with its brass hooks all intact, is lead filled and still in strong condition with some corrosion to the lead. The face of the convex plate is edged with double borders, with some light denting in areas around the edge. One of the nicer examples of an early 1839 pattern we have encountered.
