This is a very good original U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, manufactured by Mansfield & Lamb of Forestdale, Rhode Island, and dated 1864, retaining its original leather grip covering, twisted brass wire, three-branch brass guard, and leather blade washer. The saber is accompanied by a later Model 1906 cavalry saber scabbard, which is not original to the sword but provides a correct-period military display scabbard of closely related form.

The curved 35 inch blade's ricasso is marked on one side with:

MANSFIELD
&
LAMB
FORESTDALE. The scabbard does show signs of past oxidation, which has not been cleaned off.

This saber is particularly noteworthy for the combination of its 1864 Mansfield & Lamb Forestdale maker marking, U.S. / J.M. government inspection marks, J.M.-stamped pommel, surviving original leather grip and twisted wire, original blade washer, and later Model 1906 cavalry scabbard. The sword itself is a genuine Civil War-period U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, while the mismatched scabbard documents the continued interchangeability and long service life of American cavalry equipment into the early 20th century.

Approximate Dimensions:-
Blade Length: 34 3/4"
Blade Style: Single Edged Curved Saber with double Fullers
Overall length: 40 3/4“
Basket dimensions: 5" width x 5” length
Scabbard length: 36 7/8”

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-civil-war-era-m1860-light-cavalry-saber-by-mansfield-and-lamb-with-incorrect-model-1906-scabbard-dated-1864
