Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of a scarce Civil War infantry cap/hat badge, featuring a gilt French horn with ornamentation. The badge still retains both of its weak prongs allowing for affixation to hats/caps.
As per the regulation, This is the "gilt french horn" device prescribed for infantry in the 1834 regulations. Struck in sheet brass of medium thickness, the horn has small bits of ornamentation as shown. The badge measures 3½" x 2”.
