Hartford served in several prominent campaigns in the American Civil War as the flagship of David G. Farragut, most notably the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864. She survived until 1956, when she sank awaiting restoration at Norfolk, Virginia.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe spike, which measures 11⅝” including the large loop, is mounted to the 4 x 15” wooden board with two copper loops, however the spike is not fastened very tightly and slips out of the right loop if not handled carefully, but thankfully due to the large loop in the spike itself, it will not fall out of the other hole.
