Easy to conceal, these were very popular.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe barrel is slid forward for reloading by pushing in the button on the bottom of the frame and sliding the barrel forwards with the hammer in the \"half cock\" position. The underside of the barrel is marked with serial number \u003cstrong\u003e18962\u003c\/strong\u003e on the dovetail, which is also marked on the bottom of the pistol grip frame. There were several variations on this pistol, including some in .22RF with a shorter barrel. This is the Model 2A, with the longer 3 inch barrel assembly in .30RF, for a bit more \"punch\". This was the most produced version of the Model 2, with the 26,500 made representing 70% of all Model 2 production.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pistol is also marked on both sides of the brass frame in circles around the hammer axis screw, though the markings are a bit worn. The frame was originally nickel plated, and there is still some remaining under the barrel assembly. The rest has a lovely mustard patina, with some dark oxidation in areas. The flat bottom grip is very nice, with checkered \"gutta percha\" composite grip scales that look great. The advance lever for the rotating firing pin works very well on this example, and we did not notice any mechanical issues with cycling, though it seems one of the springs for the barrel release is weak or missing, so it is loose when the breech is open. The bores on the barrels are all clear, and still have clear lands and grooves, with mostly bright finishes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAn interesting stepping stone in 19th Century American firearms.
