This is a very nice turn of the 19th Century Swiss Flintlock Musket, still in the original flintlock configuration. Switzerland is made up of various "Cantons", which make on the Swiss Confederation. This number has grown over the years, and they have always retained some level of autonomy. As such they each maintained their own stock of weapons as part of their arsenal, which were both made domestically and imported from countries such as Belgium.

This example is very similar to other examples that we have seen, and looks to be of Swiss manufacture. It measures 56 3/4 inches in overall length, with a two stage part octagon 41 3/4 inch barrel in .69" caliber, correct for this type of musket. The only marking on the entire musket is on the top flat of the barrel, which reads:

G. LUZERN. No 74 B

This indicates it was in the stocks of the Swiss canton of Luzern (Lucerne), located in central Switzerland. This example is quite similar to another example we have seen, which was serial 700. This example however has a rounded side plate, and an octagonal barrel. As with the other example, it is all steel mounted, with a double strap nose cap, and spring retained solid barrel bands, somewhat similar to French muskets of the time. It has a lovely cheek rest cut into the left side of the stock. Condition is very good overall, with a lovely patina of age. Both sling swivels are still present, as is the ramrod, and and the lock is still functional, though it does not hold at half cock. The stock is lovely, showing no major damage.

A lovely Swiss Flintlock musket, ready to research and display!

Specifications:

Year of Manufacture: circa 1800
Caliber: about .69 inches
Ammunition Type: Lead Ball & Powder with Percussion Cap
Barrel Length: 41 3/4 inches
Overall Length: 56 3/4 inches
Action: Side Action Percussion Lock
Feed System: Muzzle-Loaded

NOTE: International orders of antique firearms MUST be shipped using UPS WW Services (courier).
