Republicans loyal to the elected, left-leaning Second Spanish Republic, in alliance with the Anarchists and Communists, fought against a revolt by the Nationalists, an alliance of Falangists, Monarchists, Carlists, conservatives and Catholics, led by a military clique among whom General Francisco Franco soon achieved a preponderant role. Due to the international political climate at the time, the war had many facets, and different views saw it as class struggle, a war of religion, a struggle between dictatorship and republican democracy, between revolution and counterrevolution, between fascism and communism. It has been frequently called the \"dress rehearsal\" for World War II\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs with any conflict, the opposing sides quickly developed new weapons. The Republican side developed the M1936 Spanish Universal Grenade, which were manufactured in Barcelona circa 1936 for the War.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe design consists of a cast iron \"pre-fragmented\" body, and uses the B-3 fuze, \u003cspan\u003ea copy of the Polish wz. Gr.31 fuze or French brillant fuze. The difference with the original polish and french fuze was really only the diameter of the threads.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe grenade is in very good condition, though no foundry marks are present. These grenades were manufactured by several companies, therefore different markings are seen on these bodies. Sometimes there are no markings at all.
