Item Description
Original Item: One of a Kind. This is really nice nice Yataghan short sword measuring 30 inches long, which dates to around 1800. It comes from the Ottoman Empire, which at it's peak included TURKEY and most Middle Eastern Countries, stretching from what is today Bulgaria across to Iran and right across North Africa to Morocco. A vast Empire lasting from the 1500's until 1918 and the close of the First World War.
The sword has the characteristic Yataghan 23 1/2" downward sloping blade, lightly engraved and featuring some gold metal inlay. The hilt is bone and features a twin horned pommel. The metal fittings for the handle extends from the pommel and partly onto the blade itself. These are lavishly decorated, engraved, embossed and once gold plated, together with inlaid Coral sections numbering seven in total. There are two semi-precious transparent red stones mounted on either side of the ricasso. Most impressive!
For what this is it is one of the most striking Ottoman Yataghans we've seen. Comes complete with its original leather covered wood scabbard with lightly decorated brass mounts. Ready to Display!
