This is a nice example of a U.S. WWII M1 helmet liner, which was then used post war during the occupation period. The liner is a correct WWII \"High Pressure\" type, though it looks like the interior may have been cleaned when it was repainted, which smoothed the interior, but also removed the original maker markings, which were really only markings on the mold. The pattern of the interior confirms that it is a high pressure liner. It is complete, though definitely worn on the interior, and it features an early pattern \"green buckle\" chin strap, only produced during early WWII.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe exterior of the helmet was painted green on the exterior, and is marked to \u003cstrong\u003eSNOW\u003c\/strong\u003e on the front of the helmet. The right side of the helmet the insignia of the \u003cstrong\u003eU.S. Army 6th Armored Division\u003c\/strong\u003e, while the left side has the insignia of the \u003cstrong\u003e52nd Armored Engineer Battalion\u003c\/strong\u003e. The sweatband and the inside of the liner are both stamped with laundry number \u003cstrong\u003eS-8430\u003c\/strong\u003e, which combined with last name presents a great research opportunity!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis true US WWII M-1 helmet liner can be identified through the frontal eyelet hole. Other correct WWII features include OD Green #3 cotton herringbone twill (HBT) cloth suspension liner, with the webbing in very good condition. This HBT suspension is still held tightly within the M-1 helmet liner by rivets and a series of triangular \"A\" washers. The three upper suspension bands are joined together with a string, which allowed the wearer to adjust the fit. The sweatband is still present, showing age and cracking from service.
