This is a very nice Norwegian Model of 1831\/1846 Percussion Converted Cavalry Pistol, which has definitely had an interesting history. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\" data-mce-style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eOnly 1280 pairs of these pistols were made, each set consisting of one rifled “studser\" pistol and one smoothbore “flankors” pistol, plus a detachable shoulder stock. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example is slightly shorter than it originally was, fitted with an 8 inch 0.67\" barrel with an overall measurement of 14 3\/4 inches. It features all brass mounts of butt cap, trigger guard, side plate and nose cap. T\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ehe lock plate brass butt cap\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e are both marked with serial number \u003cstrong\u003e637 \/ R\u003c\/strong\u003e. We understand these were made at the Arsenal of KONGSBURG in Norway, and the \u003cstrong\u003eCROWN \/ K\u003c\/strong\u003e marking is visible on the lock plate in several locations. There are additional proof marks on the plate as well.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe top of the barrel is marked with a faint \u003cstrong\u003eE \/ L G in an Oval\u003c\/strong\u003e marking for Liège, Belgium, with an additional \u003cstrong\u003e\"Tower of Liège\"\u003c\/strong\u003e proof by the cap nipple bolster. There is also a \u003cstrong\u003e* \/ Z\u003c\/strong\u003e marking, all of which indicates that the percussion conversion, or later alteration, took place in the Belgian City, which historically has had a very large firearms industry.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThere is an iron back strap extending from just behind the barrel tang all the way down the spine of the grip to the brass butt cap. This back strap is cut for the addition of a removable wood shoulder stock not present at this time.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pistol definitely does show wear and tear from decades of service. The trigger guard is cracked through at the lower screw, and the iron back strap is bent outwards at the bottom.
