This type of stopper replaced the earlier metal and cork version, and was made of a soft wood plug with a hardwood top. These are rarer to see, especially in nice intact condition with all of the harness intact.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe canteen is arsenal and maker marked on the bottom under the strap, and there is a date reading \u003cstrong\u003e昭 一 八\u003c\/strong\u003e, or Showa 1 8, which corresponds to Western year 1943. These were usually made in during the 1941-1942 period. The web harness is in good condition, with the expected fading and wear from being in long service. This is later version with the stopper retained by canvas, not leather, it the strap is still in good shape.
