The compact set is housed in a fitted leather carrying case and includes a nickel-finished handset, connecting cord and plug, and an intact leather carrying sling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe set is considerably smaller than a conventional Japanese field telephone and appears to have been intended as ancillary communications equipment used in conjunction with a larger field-telephone installation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe set is mostly devoid of markings except when you remove the large box in the one compartment, which reveals a data plate to the side denoting manufacture by Anritsu Electric Co. although this translation may not be exact. Under this is the date of manufacture, translating to \u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eShowa 13, Month 9, for September 1938\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e, very early! The serial number is listed as \u003cb\u003e2303 \u003c\/b\u003eon the plate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAttached to the handset is a separate smaller cord with a plug device to attach to the conventional Field Telephone unit. There is no spare mouthpiece in this set.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe leather case is very sound with belt loops on the reverse and an intact leather sling that is still pliable. There is some wear to the leather especially in the straps which hold the lids.
