This is a very good condition original WWII Japanese Army type 98 tropical sun pith helmet. It still retains a wonderful form with internal bamboo wicker construction. Comes with original pentagonal bevo style cloth embroidered army star insignia to the front, although it is very worn and the star is heavily faded. Helmet has the original suspension system and original chinstrap.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example is well marked with original labels inside bearing Japanese kanji characters. One of these is marked with the date \u003cstrong\u003e昭 和 十 八 年.\u003c\/strong\u003e This would be read: SHOWA (current reigning emperor) Juu-Hachi Nen (18th year of reign - 1943).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe condition does show wear consistent with service and storage. The exterior has some staining, and there is wear to the yellow star on the front of the helmet. The interior retains the color well, with some discoloration around the brim. The lower suspension band is present with a working buckle.
