This is a beautiful classic Nickel-Plated Imperial German WWI Mecklenburg Presentation sword, with no etching and a great scabbard. It conforms to the Model 1889 standard quite well, with a straight thrusting blade, and a basket hilt guard. The presentation version is of course quite less robust than the cavalry issue, and these were privately purchased, so there is no acceptance marking on the spine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe guard is partly \"fold-away\", and that portion also bears the seal of the state of Mecklenburg on it. The guard shows some very minor oxidation. The grip is molded bakelite or gutta percha, and is missing some material under the fold-away guard. The leather blade buffer is still present, and in good shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 31 7\/8” blade of this example is in great condition, with just a few scratches and areas of oxidation only at the ricasso. The only marking is the double trademark \"\u003cstrong\u003eKing's Helmet\u003c\/strong\u003e\" (Ritter-helm) alongside a \u003cstrong\u003e\"Kings's Head\"\u003c\/strong\u003e (königskopf) over W.K. \u0026amp; C. logo of legendary German maker\u003cstrong\u003e Weyersberg Kirschbaum \u0026amp; Cie of Solingen\u003c\/strong\u003e. This company is a famous manufacturer of military swords and cutlery in Solingen, Germany - a city famous since the middle ages for its metal-working and craftsmanship in sword making.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe steel scabbard has a single hanging ring, as the second fitting was for a hook on the hanger. It has a great period paintjob in the classic “Ersatz Green” used on bayonet scabbards during this period. There is some heavy denting and oxidation as shown. The throat is stamped with unit marking 13.U.3.4., which may denote issue to the 13th Uhlan regiment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOverall condition is very good.
