The garment was intended to be worn over the uniform as a substantial cold-weather outer layer and is of the large, privately tailored type commonly associated with officers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eImperial German officers were generally responsible for privately purchasing much of their uniform clothing, and surviving officer cloaks and greatcoats therefore show considerable variation in material, tailoring, lining, and collar construction.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe clock is very large with two interior pockets held in by a button. There is a five button closure at the front as shown, with attachment buttons under the collar as well.
