This is a very nice Imperial German WWI era dress sword from the Kingdom of Saxony, which was one of the member states of the German empire. Offered in good condition, it features a shape-fold-away guard with the Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Saxony on it. The grip is brass wire bound over polished celluloid, most likely with wood underneath. The grip is in very good condition, and the hilt is tight to the tang. This model of sword is somewhat similar to the Prussian Model of 1889, but the blade is definitely different. The hilt looks to be made entirely of brass alloy.

The nickel plated double edged straight blade is in good condition and has a triple fuller on each side and is 29 3/8 inches from the spear point to the hilt. The nickel plate is retained very well, with only some light wear from the scabbard, and minor oxidation though it appears that it could clean up nicely. The sword ricasso is etched with a CROWN over an interlocking FA monogram, which is one of the three known types used by Saxon King Frederick Augustus III. He reigned from 1904 until the end of the Monarchy following WWI in 1918. Overall length of the sword is 34 7/8 inches, and the leather blade buffer is retained but appears broken on one side.

The reverse ricasso of the blade is marked with the "Crowned Z Shield" trademark of Clemen & Jung Waffenfabrik (Weapons Factory) of Solingen, the legendary "City of Blades" in the mountains of Western Germany. The blade is etched EISENHAUER GARANTIRT, which means “Iron Cutting Guarantee”.

The steel scabbard has a single hanging ring, as the second fitting was for a hook on the hanger. It has the standard black enamel finish, which has worn off in some areas, and the underlying steel has oxidized. The scabbard has some moderate denting but nothing that hinders sheathing.

Overall condition is very good.
