The helmet exhibits a pair of corresponding perforations through the shell consistent with a projectile or shrapnel strike, with damage continuing into one of the original liner pads. The alignment of the shell and liner damage makes this an especially interesting surviving example of a helmet that appears to have sustained its damage while assembled.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe helmet still has both of the dome headed chinstrap retaining rivets, which hold the interior pickelhaube style chin strap lugs in place, and one end piece of the chinstrap is still retained on one rivet with an interesting piece of twisted wire over it. The shell also retains both of the extended ventilation side lugs, which are the correct short version without any step for the larger size 66 shell. This is a relatively uncommon maker to find, as they only produced shells in sizes 62 and 66. Size 66 is a nice large size that can accommodate liners from 58cm to 60cm or US 7 1\/4 to 7 1\/2. There is a rolling mill mark dome stamp of \u003cb\u003eB i 458\u003c\/b\u003e, indicating that \u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eBismarckhutte in Oberschlesien \u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003emade the steel. This is the usual dome stamp for an \"Si\" marked helmet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe three liner pads are retained on the M1917 metal liner band. One pad has some damage from the piece of shrapnel or bullet.
