This is a very nice genuine medal bar, owned by a German soldier who fought during WWI and wore these medals in parades during the 1920s and 1930s. Some of the ribbon colors have faded a bit, but overall the set is quite eye catching. The absolute crown jewel of this set is the Herzoglich Sachsen-Ernestinischer Hausorden Ritterkreuz 1.Klasse mit Schwertern, or Ducal Saxony-Ernestine House Order Knight's Cross 1st class with swords. There are six medals total, and this is likely one of the most outstanding medal bars we’ve ever offered.

The medals include:
- German WWI Honor Cross of the World War 1914/1918 (Hindenburg Cross) Medal
- Imperial German WWI City of Hamburg Hanseatic Cross (Hanseatenkreuz).
- Herzoglich Sachsen-Ernestinischer Hausorden Ritterkreuz 1.Klasse mit Schwertern. The House Order of the Ernestine Duchies was founded on March 25, 1833 together by the 3 Dukes Ernst I. of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Frederick of Saxony-Altenburg and Bernhard Erich friend of Saxe-Meiningen. The Order consisted of 4 classes: Grand Cross, Commander 1st Class, Commander 2nd Class and Knight. The knights 2nd class were added in 1890. The order could also be awarded to foreigners. But that needed the approval of at least 2 duchies. The awards of the other classes were evenly divided among the 3 duchies. Until 1864, the crosses were marked by letters on the upper cross arms. F for Altenburg, E for Gotha and B for Meiningen. Foreigners received crosses without oak leaves around the medallion. For war earnings from 1850 swords were awarded to the ring or swords between the cross arms.
The knight crosses 1st class were made of gold or silver plated. The ribbon of this one is in particular very faded, and the original colors can be seen on the small bit of ribbon to the reverse.
- Friedrich-August Cross. The Friedrich-August Cross was a German decoration of the First World War. It was set up on 24 September 1914 by Frederick Augustus II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg, with two classes, for (to quote its citation) "all persons of military or civilian status, who have shown outstanding service during the war itself". The Friedrich-August-Kreuz is a black iron cross pattée with a laurel wreath between the arms. The obverse of the cross bears a circular central medallion with the initials FA. The crown of Oldenburg appears on the upper arm of the cross, with the lower arm bearing the date 1914. The reverse is plain.
- WWI Saxe Weimar Order of the White Falcon Knight Cross 1st Class with Swords (Gold). Instituted: 2 August 1732 by Duke Ernst-August I. Awarded for civil and military merit. An award 'with swords' made for bravery and merit on the field of battle from 22 September 1870. The grades of the White Falcon were Grand Cross, Commander 1st Class (Komturkreuz 1. Klasse), Commander (Komturkreuz), Knight 1st Class (Ritterkreuz 1. Abteilung), and Knight 2nd Class (Ritterkreuz 2. Abteilung), with the Merit Cross (Verdienstkreuz) affiliated with the order. Very rare.
- WWI Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, or EKII).

This is an outstanding medal bar, with two of the scarcest orders to find on Imperial German medal bars. The bar itself is in great shape with black fabric backing and a rigid straight pin-bar which still works well.

Comes ready for further research and display!

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-imperial-german-saxon-wwi-medal-bar-with-extremely-scarce-herzoglich-saschsen-cross-6-medals-total
