These usually have a higher quality finish than the issue M-71 Bayonet, and this example has a lovely etched blade. There are panels on both sides showing stands of arms, foliate designs, and more. The darkening in the panels has however worn, so it can be hard to see the etching. As is correct the bayonet's blade is fully blunt. We can see the original etched writing on the right side of the blade, which reads \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eIn Treue Fest\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, German for \"steadfast in loyalty.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe reverse ricasso is stamped with the trademark \u003cstrong\u003e\"Knight's Helmet\" (\u003cem\u003eRitter-helm\u003c\/em\u003e)\u003c\/strong\u003e logo of legendary maker Weyersberg Kirschbaum \u0026amp; Cie of Solingen. This company is a famous manufacturer of military swords and cutlery in Solingen, Germany - a city famous since the middle ages for its metal-working and craftsmanship in sword making. The traditional manufacturing of swords at WKC dates back to the year 1774 when the Weyersberg first registered the ''Kings head'' as their trademark. Later in 1883 the company merged with the Kirschbaums and the company WKC was formed as it exists today. For more information please see J. The \"German Silver\" cupronickel alloy crossguard has the usual \"S\" shape seen on these parade bayonets, and it does not have a muzzle ring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCondition is very good, with a lovely patina on the brass, and a mostly bright finish on the blade, with areas of oxidation. The bayonet comes in good quality silver mounted leather scabbard and is a fine example with probably 125 years of age to it. It has shrunk a bit over time and is quite stiff, however it still correctly fits the blade with no issues.
