Squadron - Four Signatures KIA - 30" x 35”

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This lovely 30 x 35” tank identification flag is signed by 27 soldiers of Troop A, 117th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron within the center swas, some with addresses but most without. Thankfully, the flag’s previous owner conducted research and was able to link the men to the unit, as well as noting that four of the men, Sgt. Harry E. Deaton, Sgt. Ernest L. Haley, S/Sgt. Edward Torbich, and T/5 Vincent D. Bagocius, were Killed in Action after signing the flag, the first three on December 18th, 1944, and the fourth on March 16th, 1945.

The flag measures 30 x 35” and is in fair condition with some heavy staining across the flag as shown. All four corner grommets are retained, and most of the signed names are still clear, making this a great framing opportunity. Included is a page of the Honor Roll of the 117th, which notes the four men who were KIA. Another included sheet shines light on the deaths of the first three men: A jeep load of officers and men hit several Teller Mines one evening and two officers and four senior sergeants were killed. All were outstanding soldiers and this one single incident had the greatest impact on hardened men who felt this loss throughout the remainder of the War and years later.

This is a fantastic piece of history which requires more research to put together the stories of the 27 men who signed this flag. Comes ready for further research and display!

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-german-wwii-usgi-captured-signed-panzer-tank-vehicle-id-flag-with-research-117th-cavalry-recon-squadron-four-signatures-kia-30-x-35
