These would have an embroidered insignia that was attached to the front of the shirt, specific to the branch they were a member of.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example was captured by an American soldier and signed by 8 members of his battalion. Unfortunately, there are no full names and only nicknames without any unit designation, so we are unable to identify the unit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe piece is signed by Vic, Piper, Snoose, Mac, Paxton, Phil, Red, and Potter of the 1st Battalion. It’s signed Somewhere in Deutschland. It measures roughly 11 x 5½”.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEmbroidery was not easily accomplished on shirts, and it was much more economical to produce the insignia separately, and sew them on later as a completed patch. These were embroidered onto rolls of fabric, and then cut out before being attached.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is an original Army Heer embroidered insignia, measuring 10 inches across at the top.
