During the period many new types of identification were required, both for civilians and military personnel, both as a method of control and to help protect vital parts of the German war machine. These books often recorded quite a bit about the owners life, much more than just their basic information. The military issued books in particulars also served as records of their service as well as pay books, so they were definitely important to keep safe.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis lovely set consists of the following Identification books:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e- One German WWII Deutsches Reich Arbeitsbuch\u003c\/strong\u003e (German National Workbook), named to what looks like \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e??? Rols verehel Pape\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, in two different penmanship styles. \"verehel\" translates to \"married\", so her maiden name was Rols, and married name Pape, however we cannot make out her first name. As indicated on page 7 the book was issued \u003cstrong\u003e2130. Oktober 1936\u003c\/strong\u003e, and it is the early 1935 pattern book, with the old Weimar style national eagle design, though there are still swasses in the corners. These books grew out of a 1935 law requiring registration of work, and documentation of work history for German citizens-and only German citizens. Foreigners who worked in Germany carried an Arbeitsbuch für Ausländer which had a picture of the owner.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e- One German WWII Wehrpaß Identification Book\u003c\/strong\u003e stamped \u003cstrong\u003eHeer\u003c\/strong\u003e on the front, issued \u003cstrong\u003e29. März 1939\u003c\/strong\u003e and named to what looks like \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eOtto Stegmann\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e. These identification books were required beginning in 1935 with the beginning of conscription in NSDAP-ruled Germany, and all eligible males were required to get one. His date of birth is listed as \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e23. 5. 1906\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, so he was also quite a bit older than the usual recruit when the book was issued.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e- One German WWII Reisepass\u003c\/strong\u003e (Passport), named to \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003eKäte Mayer, geb. Goering\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e, indicating both her married name and her maiden name. It was issued 22 Januar 1937, though it does not look like she really went anywhere during the war, as most pages are blank.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e- One German WWII Deutsches Reich Arbeitsbuch\u003c\/strong\u003e (German National Workbook), named to what looks like \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWalter Kaufmann\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e. As indicated on page 7 the book was issued \u003cstrong\u003e24. April 1942\u003c\/strong\u003e, and it is the 1935 pattern book, with the new Reichsadler Design. In this script the lowercase \"n\" and \"u\" are identical, so the latter gets the arc shaped mark over it.
