Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a fine example of totally original Model M40 M-1940 German WW2 large size 66 helmet shell, refurbished based on original period photographs. The shell is stamped EF 66 indicating that Emaillierwerke AG, of Fulda, Germany manufactured it. It also has lot stamp 170 on the rear skirt. Size 66 is a nice large size that can accommodate liners from 58cm to 59cm or US 7 1/4 to 7 3/8. Size 66 shells are much harder to find and are therefore more valuable to a collector.
This particular helmet was originally a bare shell, with wonderful original service worn paint on the outside of the shell. It is the correct field gray color, and retained at about 50%, with a wonderful patina and lots of battle wear. To this we have added period correct twisted chicken wire, a reproduction aged decal, and a hand aged reproduction liner and chin strap. This gives it an excellent look, just like helmets that would have been picked up in France following the D-Day invasion.

Every detail except for the paint is hand done, with the most correct materials available. Please know that the chicken wire, decals, liner and chinstrap, while they look totally original are all new and the helmet has been refurbished to look as if it was picked up off the battle field by a USGI and brought home as a war trophy.
