Item Description
Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a fine example of totally original Model M40 M-1940 German WW2 large size 66 helmet shell. The shell is stamped EF 66 indicating that Emaillierwerke AG, of Fulda, Germany manufactured it. Size 66 is a nice large size that can accommodate liners from 58cm to 60cm or US 7 1/4 to 7 1/2. Size 66 shells are always hard to find and are therefore more valuable to a collector.
Hohenstaufen 9thSS Panzer Division
- Formed France 1943 with a cadre of men from the 1stSSLAH
- March 1944 formed part of the IISS PanzerKorp in Russia
- June 1944 pulled back to France to defend against the landings at Normandy and saw action at Caen against Montgomery.
-Late 1944 was resting at Arnhem at "the Bridge Too far' and was a major factor in the British defeat
- December 1944 saw heavy fighting at Bastogne during the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge)
- This helmet is representative of a long serving 1stSSLAH man who was assigned to form the nucleus of the new 9th SSPzDv. The helmet was originally painted green and then over painted in dark green which through heavy use has mostly chipped off
