Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a fine example of totally original Model M40 M-1940 German WW2 large size 66 helmet shell. The shell is stamped EF 66 indicating that Emaillierwerke AG, of Fulda, Germany manufactured it. Size 66 is a nice large size that can accommodate liners from 58cm to 60cm or US 7 1/4 to 7 1/2. Size 66 shells are always hard to find and are therefore more valuable to a collector.

Hermann Goring Division

- In 1943 the Hermann Goring Division was reformed from former Afrikakorp V

eterans in Sicily.

- In July 1943 the Allies attacked Sicily and the Hermann Goring Division was the backbone of the German defense and was the last to leave the island to Italy acting as rearguard.

- In September 1943 the Division held the line at Salerno and then the Gustov line which was a defense across the width of Italy.

- Finally, the unit was the first to be on site at the surprise Allied landings in 1944 at Anzio and was instrumental in stalling this offensive.

- This helmet accurately represents those worn by Hermann Goring personnel in Sicily and Italy 1943-44.
