Now this is something we have only had a very few of: an original German WWII Schutzstaffel (SS) typewriter! This is a ROBUST model, made by \u003cstrong\u003eOLYMPIA BÜROMASCHINENWERKE AG. ERFURT\u003c\/strong\u003e (\u003cem\u003eOlympia Office Machine Works Co\u003c\/em\u003e), as noted on the label inside of the transit chest. There is also the script logo \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eOlympia\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/em\u003eon the typewriter itself, which is marked on the bottom with serial number \u003cstrong\u003e423704\u003c\/strong\u003e. The typewriter seems to be fully functional and comes complete with a ribbon, which dried out long ago. It is however missing the top cover that protects the keys and works from dust, and overall it could use a servicing.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNow, the question most have is \"what makes this an SS typewriter?\". That would be the \"shift\" position shown on the machines key for \u003cstrong\u003e5\u003c\/strong\u003e, which is the double Sig rune emblem of the SS: \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eᛋᛋ\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e. The key bar itself has this on it, and it is definitely the original one. Very few of these survived the war intact, as most were modified for use post war with replacement of the key and striker.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis Typewriter comes complete with it's original wooden transit chest, with an inner label reading \u003cstrong\u003eKURZE ERKLÄRUNG DER OLYMPIA ROBUST\u003c\/strong\u003e (Short Explanation of Olympia ROBUST) on the inside of the lid. The chest, measuring 15\" x 14\" x 6 1\/2\", still retains a lot of the original olive green paint, with wear in the expected areas.
