Original German WWII Rare Heer Army Panzergrenadier Officer Wool M38 Overseas Cap in Excellent Condition

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition example of a German WWII Heer Army Artillery Officer's M38 overseas cap (Schiffchen). The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally "little ship" as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for all branches of the Heer.

This example is constructed of a a field gray (feldgrau) wool exterior, with a gray rayon lining. It features a fine machine embroidered eagle, with silver thread on a green base, the standard Heer colors. The "scallop" on the front has silver piping on top, which is also around the cap crown, indicating officer issue. The front center of the cap has a hand-embroidered bullion National Tri-Color Cockade, correct for officer issue.

There is also a very nice Wiesengrün (Meadow Green) V-shaped soutache, which is the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for the Heer Panzergrenadiertruppen (Panzer Grenadier Troops). These were motorized / mechanized infantry troops, and were legendary in the field. Originally called Schützen regiments, they had used the same Pink piping as the Panzer corps. Then in 1942 Infantry Regiments were renamed as Grenadier Regiments by AH as a historical homage to Frederick the Great's Army, and the Schützen were renamed to Panzergrenadiers.

Condition of this cap is excellent, with no moth damage that we can see, and only light wear to the liner. The color is retained quite well, and this is definitely a very attractive and colorful overseas cap. Ready to add to your collection!
