The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as \u003cem\u003eSchiffchen\u003c\/em\u003e, or literally \"little ship\" as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for Warrant and Petty officer NCO ranks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cap is constructed of a navy blue wool exterior, and features machine BeVo embroidered bullion eagle and tri-color cockade emblems sewn to the front. The left side of the cap additionally has a lovely hand embroidered panel with the nickname \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFranzi\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e on the inside. On the left is a four leaf clover, and the right an arrow through a heart, so we would assume that \"Franzi\"'s sweetheart added this before he set out at sea.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe interior is black light canvas, and is in very good condition. There is a size \u003cstrong\u003e56\u003c\/strong\u003e stamped on the left hand side, over the maker's initials \u003cstrong\u003eHBB\u003c\/strong\u003e. The other side has a tag pinned in place, which looks to be from a collector who previously owned this wonderful cap.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCondition of the cap is very good, showing light wear from service on the exterior, which has removed some of the fuzzy 'nap' of the wool fabric.
