original-german-wwii-officer-s-tall-riding-jack-boots-with-hobnails
Original German WWII Officer’s Tall Riding Jack Boots with Hobnails

Original Item. Only One Pair Available. This is a very good service-worn pair of original German WWII tall black leather marching boots. Commonly described by collectors as Jackboots and known in German as Marschstiefel, the pair retains most of its original hobnails, metal toe irons, pull straps, and tall shaft construction. The leather shows stiffness, rubbing, and age-related wear, but both boots remain substantially solid and suitable for a supported uniform display.

The boots are constructed from black leather with tall pull-on shafts and heavy leather soles. This practical lace-free design was widely used by German military personnel before and during WWII.

Most of the original hobnails remain present on both soles. The nails show heavy oxidation from age and use. Metal toe irons are retained at the fronts of the soles. These fittings helped protect areas exposed to heavy wear during marching.

The soles measure approximately 12¼” long. No size marking is visible. Based on the sole measurement, the boots appear to be a medium to large size. The boots measure 18 ½” tall.

Both boots retain their interior pull straps, which assisted the wearer in drawing the tall boots onto the legs. An additional leather strap remains present on one side of each boot. The leather has become somewhat stiff with age and shows minor rubbing, particularly along the seams.

The rear stitching on both boots exhibits rubbing and small areas of loss. The seams remain substantially intact, but the weakened stitching should be supported and handled carefully. The boots should not be worn. Their aged leather, oxidized hardware, and weakened stitching make them appropriate only for collection and display.

German marching boots formed a distinctive part of the Imperial and later Wehrmacht military uniform. Their heavy leather construction and reinforced soles were intended to withstand extended marching and field service.

During WWII, shortages of leather and the need to reduce production costs led to increasing use of lower ankle boots with gaiters, although tall marching boots continued to be worn and remained in service.

The tall black leather shafts, retained pull straps, original hobnails, toe irons, and service wear preserve the characteristic appearance of German military marching boots. The stiff leather, oxidized nails, rubbed seams, and minor stitching loss are important condition factors, but the pair remains suitable for completing a supported German WWII uniform or equipment display.
