The NSKOV was established in 1934 and was affiliated to the NSDAP Party. The headquarters of the organization was in Kreuzberg, Berlin (at the time called the SW 68 district) and employed the architect Willy Muehlau to design cheap residential complexes for NSDAP war veterans. These complexes emerged some time between the late 1920s and early 1930s and are protected according to the City of Berlin's Denkmalliste (monument list).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a very nice WWII NSKOV cast Flag Pole Finial or Topper (\u003cem\u003eFahnenstange Endstück\u003c\/em\u003e). The design has the NSKOV emblem in the center, with a canted \u003cem\u003eSwas\u003c\/em\u003e (hook cross) inside a painted red circle, which is overlaid on the Iron Cross emblem. This is surrounded by an oval oak leaf wreath, with a sword piercing the entire emblem and connecting to the integral end socket. The arms of the cross are painted black, with the paint well retained. It measures about 15 1\/4\" long and 5 1\/8\" wide, and looks to be made from cast zinc alloy, which was possibly originally silvered, but now shows a light gray patina. There are no markings on the finial except for \u003cstrong\u003eGES. GESCH. \/ OTTO GAHR\u003c\/strong\u003e on the end sleeve, indicating it is a protected design made by Otto Gahr, a known maker of pole toppers during the NSDAP period.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pole topper is mounted to a relatively simple glued together wooden stand, which  has a base measuring and 5\" x 5 3\/4\" raises the pole topper approximately 4 inches off the ground. It is in relatively good shape but could definitely use some stabilization of the glue that holds it together.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese Flag Pole Finials are extremely hard to find, as most were destroyed or melted back down as scrap.
