This is a very nice WWII German National Socialist German Workers' Party (\u003cem\u003eNationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei - NSDAP\u003c\/em\u003e) Early Flag Pole Finial or Topper (\u003cem\u003eFahnenstange Endstück\u003c\/em\u003e) Eagle, made before the official \"First Pattern\" was designed. It is constructed of what looks to be solid brass or possibly bronze, and is of the early multi-part design. Unfortunately, while the topper still has the attachment rod, the socket fitting on the bottom is missing. It shows a lovely patina of age, with no major damage from being dropped or anything similar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe design is an early Pre-NSDAP style \"Spread Wing\" \u003cem\u003eReichsadler\u003c\/em\u003e (National Eagle), which looks to its right, and is perched on an oak-leaf wreath, with a mobile\/canted \u003cem\u003eSwas\u003c\/em\u003e (hook cross) in the center. The eagle is not the \"art deco\" style usually seen, and much more similar to the Eagles used during the imperial period. It measures 8 1\/4 inches tall including the 5\/8 inch threaded rod, and is 9 1\/4 inches wide at the tips of the wings. It shows only light wear, and has a lovely aged patina on the brass, with some areas of verdigris and more advanced oxidation. It could be cleaned, but we recommend it be left exactly as it is, with its great aged look.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese Flag Pole Finials are extremely hard to find, as most were destroyed or melted back down as scrap.
