Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a fine example of totally original Model M42 M-1942 German WW2 large size 66 helmet shell. The shell is stamped hkp 66 indicating that Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke A.G. of Germany manufactured it. Size 66 is a nice large size that can accommodate liners from 58cm to 60cm or US 7 1/4 to 7 1/2. Size 66 shells are much harder to find and are therefore more valuable to a collector.
Notable history of the WWII M42 1SS Leibstandarte Southern Front Helmet :
- In 1943 with the looming Italian collapse, the Leibstandarte was sent to Italy
- Soon after the Leibstandarte participated in the disarming of the Italian soldiers after Italy’s surrender.
- While in Italy it was re-designated the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolph AH.
- By November the unit was rushed back to the eastern Front.
- Like a fire brigade, the 1stSSLAH was transferred from hot spot to hot spot
- This helmet represents those worn by the Leibstandarte as it moved from Italy to Russia
