Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a lovely 1944-dated oil-on-canvas painting of a German Infantry Leutnant officer. In the frame, it measures 25½ x 31½”, while the exposed canvas measures 22 ⅛ x 28 ⅛”. We do not have any identification regarding the person in the painting, but they look to be a fairly typical German, wearing an Infantry Officer’s visor. The bottom right corner of the painting is signed with the artists name, which we can not make out, next to the date, 1944.

The subject is wearing a standard M-36 Field Tunic, and style of shoulder board & litzen indicates that they are an Infantry Leutnant, equivalent to a Lieutenant. He has a standard Heer breast eagle, and on the left breast pocket is a DRL Sports badge.

The piping around the shoulder boards and central color of the litzen is white, denoting Infantry.

The painting is in good shape overall, but there is spotted loss of the lacquer top coat across the face, uniform, and background. This example could use some minor restoration. The frame it is in is more modern-done, but complements the artwork well.

Definitely an interesting piece of WW2 Memorabilia! Ready to research and display!
