This is the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for the \u003cem\u003ePanzertruppen\u003c\/em\u003e (Armored Forces), as well as \u003cem\u003eKraftfahrkampftruppe - Kraftfahrtruppen\u003c\/em\u003e (Motor Vehicle Combat Troops).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMounted at the center is the distinctive Danziger style \u003cem\u003eTotenkopf\u003c\/em\u003e. The emblem is stamped from zinc alloy and retains one original rear attachment prong. The second prong is missing, though the original solder residue remains visible where it was once attached.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe tab is in very good overall condition with its colors well retained. Stitch marks remain visible on the reverse of the piping from when the tab was sewn to a uniform, confirming prior installation. It would display especially well in a Panzer wrap tunic insignia, Heer armored branch, EM\/NCO collar tab, or advanced German WWII uniform insignia collection.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUse of the Totenkopf as a military emblem began under Frederick the Great, who formed a regiment of Hussar cavalry in the Prussian army commanded by Colonel von Ruesch, the Husaren-Regiment Nr. 5 (von Ruesch). It adopted a black uniform with a Totenkopf emblazoned on the front of its mirlitons and wore it on the field in the War of Austrian Succession and in the Seven Years' War. The Totenkopf remained a part of the uniform when the regiment was reformed into Leib-Husaren Regiments Nr.1 and Nr.2 in 1808. The skull continued to be used by the Prussian and Brunswick armed forces until 1918, and some of the stormtroopers that led the last German offensives on the Western Front in 1918 used skull badges.
