original-german-wwii-era-miniature-heer-nickel-plated-98k-bayonet-knife-with-scabbard
Original German WWII Era Miniature Heer Nickel Plated 98k Bayonet Knife with Scabbard

Original Item: Only One Available. In 1935 the German military introduced the K98k bolt action rifle or Karabiner 98 Kurz, as a replacement for the older GEW98 or Gewehr 98. A new, shorter bayonet was designed to go along with the shortened rifle. The K98 bayonet was officially named Seitengewehr 84/98 III or SG 84/98 III. The bayonet was designed as a close combat sidearm that could be placed on the tip of a K98.

What we have here however is a MINIATURE version, more of a knife or dagger, which are quite rare when compared to the full size version. This is only the second example that we have had, and it's really a lovely nickel plated example with a great patina. It has the characteristic steel "birds head" grip, and there is no bayonet button. The sides of the grip have the correct checkered bakelite though there is heavy wear and some cracking.

The blade is single edged with a single fuller, much more of a "dagger" blade than a bayonet blade, and other examples that we have seen fit this model as well. The nickel plate is still well retained, except near the ricasso, and it has properly not been sharpened. The ricasso is marked D.R.G.M. on one side, and maker marked by SMF with their "Seated King" logo on the other. The blade itself is marked with Wilh. Weber, the only reference to which being an SS officer, Wilhelm Weber, who was a member of the SS Division Charlemagne and was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. We are unsure what the actual meaning is.

The scabbard has the standard black enamel lacquer, which is very well retained, showing a lovely pattern of checking and crazing due to age. It looks to be lined on the inside partly with felt, and only fits on the knife in one direction.

A very nice example of a German Miniature 98k bayonet knife. Complete with scabbard, this bayonet knife is ready to display!

Specifications:
Blade Length: 5 3/8"
Blade Style: Single Edge w/ Fuller
Overall length: 8 5/8“
Crossguard: 1 5/8”
Scabbard Length: 6 1/8"

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-german-wwii-era-miniature-heer-nickel-plated-98k-bayonet-knife-with-scabbard
