Original German WWII Enamel Street Sign Sudetenstraße
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a late 1930s period steel and enamel sign in very good condition, it retains all of its color and character with scuff marks around the edges. Quite rare as most German enamel road signs were destroyed or American removed by soldiers after the fall of Nazi Germany.
Sudetenstraße is a main street in the German town of Karlsruhe which is less than 20 miles from the French border. Much of the central area, including the palace, was reduced to rubble by Allied bombing during World War II, but was rebuilt after the war. Located in the American zone of the postwar Allied occupation, Karlsruhe was home to an American military base, established in 1945.
Measures approximately 26 inches long x 6 inches tall. Makes a great backdrop and display piece. Not often encountered retaining with such a depth of blue in the background color.
