This is a very nice original German WWII Deutsches Jungvolk (German Young People) Enameled Membership Badge Pin, made before the RZM numbering system was fully put into place in late 1934. The back has the mark GES. GESCH embossed on the bottom and on the retaining pin, which is short for Gesetzlich Geschützt (Protected By Law), indicating that the pin was a trademarked design. There is however no contract number, so we do not know who the manufacturer is. We have only seen this type of marking on very early badge pins.

AH believed German youth to be the future of his 3rd Reich. The HJ (AH Jugend or HJ) was formed officially in 1935, and with the exception of NSDAP ideology indoctrination was very similar to the Boy Scouts. Beginning at about the age of ten years, both boys (AH Jugend) and girls (Bund Deutscher Mädel) were enlisted in the Party-run organization. The The Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ) was the junior branch of the HJ, for boys aged 10 to 14.

This example is a standard membership badge, given to all members. It is a 24mm diameter, die struck brass alloy badge with multi-colored enamel work. The design of the badge consists of a black enameled with a silver Swas (hook cross), with the letters "D" and "J" on either side. A central red translucent enamel circle contains the early HJ insignia: a single "Sig" rune.

This example is in very good condition, with a lovely patina to the plating on the front, some of which is worn away. The rear retains more of the plating and really looks great. Overall good condition with intact enamel, though there is some wear visible. The back has a very nice functional "safety pin" style attachment, which would work on any type of clothing.

Ready to display!

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-german-wwii-early-deutsches-jungvolk-dj-enamel-membership-badge-pin-ges-gesch-marked
