This is a very good original German WWII 7x50 Dienstglas binocular set manufactured by Ernst Leitz GmbH of Wetzlar, identified by the wartime maker code beh, and accompanied by an original 1942-dated black leather carrying case. The binoculars retain strong optics and remain fully functional, while the exterior shows considerable honest field wear. The leather neck strap and eyepiece cover are now absent.

The optics are nearly 100% clear, everything functions, but the neck strap and eyecup cover are missing. The paint is very worn in areas showing the bronze underneath, but are in otherwise great condition.

The hard shell black leather case with heavy white stitching is excellent though the lid is a little deformed and the securing strap is no longer tight when closed from sagging of the lid and knob. The leather carry strap is in one piece with little finish present and rather delicate in spits.

The case is marked ksd 1942 WaA14 on the top of the case under the lid, which identifies the maker as Walter Winkler of Schönwalderstrasse 101 in Berlin-Spandau, a maker of leather wares and military accoutrements. The spring-loaded catch mechanism is maker marked and dated frn 41 for Rudolf Lang, Brandenburg an der Havel, Koppehlstrasse 5-7, a maker of springs and metalwear. The shoulder strap for the case is sadly missing.

This set is particularly noteworthy for the combination of its Ernst Leitz beh marking, KF cold-weather designation, functional 7x50 optics, 1942 ksd / WaA14 case, and separately dated frn 41 closure hardware. The mismatched production dates across the binoculars and case components are entirely plausible for wartime-issued equipment assembled from parts and accessories manufactured at different times.

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-german-wwii-7x50-dienstglas-binoculars-by-ernst-leitz-beh-with-1942-dated-case-by-walter-winkler-of-schonwalderstrasse
