It features a notably light ivory colored celluloid covered wood grip, crisp aluminum hilt fittings, an excellent matte finished blade with clearly preserved factory surface, the Clemen \u0026amp; Jung crowned shield trademark, and a very well preserved plated steel scabbard.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe celluloid covered wooden grip remains a pleasing light ivory white rather than having developed the deeper orange tone often seen on surviving examples. It has a slightly tapered profile and remains tightly wrapped with twisted wire, which shows some oxidation from handling and age. The celluloid itself is in very good condition with only light staining and surface dirt.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe solid aluminum pommel is crisp and very well preserved, showing only minor edge wear with attractive darkening remaining in the recessed decoration. The mobile swas on both sides remain clear, while the surrounding oak leaf decoration is sharply raised and hand enhanced.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe crossguard is also aluminum and remains in excellent condition with little wear. The Luftwaffe eagle retains strong feather detail and flies to the left while clutching a mobile swas in its talons. The reverse panel has the expected fine pebbling, showing only light wear. The ferrule appears to be plated steel and remains in excellent condition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAn original portepee is tied around the grip and crossguard in the Luftwaffe style. It remains in very good condition overall, with light wear and oxidation consistent with age and use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe blade is in excellent condition and is not nickel plated. Instead, it retains a fine brushed matte factory finish rather than the more subtle \u003cem\u003ePliesten\u003c\/em\u003e crossgrain encountered on many other German officer dagger blades. The original stamped markings retain crisp raised edges around the impressions, supporting that the blade has not been heavily resurfaced.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe matte factory texture remains readily visible across the blade, with only light runner wear from the scabbard. There are a few small areas of light oxidation staining as well as minor scuffing from past cleaning and handling. The needle point remains fully intact and straight, the edge is correctly unsharpened, and there are no notable dents or chips. They entered the Solingen Commercial Register in 1876, and in 1898 registered the \"Crowned Shield\" logo, which has the letter Z inside the shield. This previously had been another makers trademark, but it was transferred to Clemen \u0026amp; Jung. The company supplied many edged weapons for the First World War, and continued during the interwar period, and into the Third Reich period. Army \u0026amp; Luftwaffe Officer daggers and swords are specifically noted for having the \"Crowned Shield\" on one side of the blade, with the address mark stamped on the other. Nearly all of the original plated finish is still present, and the finely pebbled panels on both sides remain well defined. Smaller oak leaf and acorn panels decorate the lower portion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe suspension bands appear to be zinc alloy and retain sharply defined, hand enhanced oak leaf decoration set at an angle. They show honest wear, and the harder steel suspension rings have worn into the softer band fittings from use. The throat is the wider pattern and is retained by domed screws on the narrow sides of the scabbard.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith its Clemen \u0026amp; Jung crowned shield trademark, crisp CLEMEN \u0026amp; JUNG \/ SOLINGEN blade marking, unusually light ivory grip, excellent aluminum fittings, original portepee, well preserved brushed matte blade finish, intact leather blade buffer, and nearly fully plated dent free scabbard, this is a strong example of a German WWII 2nd Model Luftwaffe officer dagger. The light grip staining, wire oxidation, minor blade staining and cleaning scuffs, runner wear, portepee wear, and suspension band wear are all fully disclosed.
