This is a rare German first world war Bavarian Mannschaften (Other Ranks) brass mounted tin plate (not leather) helmet known as a Pickelhaube, for the Foot-troops (Infantry).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe specific model is actually quite rare and is known as a Eisenblech (tin plate) Ersatz-Helme (Substitute helmet). The M1914 was the second to last step in the final evolution in a long series of spiked helmets. It was manufactured from tin, and provided with fittings made of brass. The protection it offered was limited and led to the eventual replacement by a steel helmet in 1916.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis helmet features a gilt brass infantry wappen (front plate) with the Bavarian coat of arms, over the kingdom's motto, In Treue Fest, German for \"steadfast in loyalty.\" The Wappen is brass and appears to be the 1914 version, it is in good condition with some blackening of the brass to the left. The front visor has brass trim in good condition, but the tear visor has steel trim which has become heavily oxidized. Wappen, spike, and brass trim are all in good order, fitted tightly in place, and (obviously to us) never modified, removed, or played with in any way. Overall, the exterior with the original paint and finish is in great condition, showing some oxidation across. Sadly, The original liner leather has not survived, with only some of the attachment pins present.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe inside of the helmet has a very faint manufacturers red paint stamp which originally read\u003cstrong\u003e Gebr. Bing AG. Nurenberg\u003c\/strong\u003e, along with the size of \u003cstrong\u003e56 \u003c\/strong\u003e(cm). We can’t make out much of the maker’s mark but only they produced these and used red ink for the maker’s mark, so we know it was made by them. This is the maker mark for the Gebruder Bing (Bing Brothers), a well-known company that manufactured toy trains and other types of toys made from tin plate. Helmets made by Bing are desirable by both Military and Toy collectors alike for this reason.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original leather chin strap is in great heavily worn condition, with the brass achieving a rich patina and the leather showing heavy cracking, with what appears to be a structural repair on one side. The Kockades appear to be reproductions, or at the very least just repainted. Both the National (Red\/White\/Black), and the Bavarian  (Blue\/White) Cockades are present.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original helmet cover is marked D.R.P. on the front piece, as is correct. Someone added the 15 lettering to the front, and it is 100% not original, meant to represent the 15th Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment.
