This is a lovely Pre-WWII set from the German Pleasure Cruise ship SS Oceana, owned and operated by the Hamburg American Line transatlantic shipping company. It is comprised of a lovely BeVo embroidered rayon cap tally along with a great photo album with the ship painted on the front, and a pamphlet from a voyage, which contains inside much of the information about the voyage, dated March 15th, 1938. There is also a lovely little Oceana bracelet.

The Tally has the vessel name OCEANA between an NSDAP flag on the left and the Hamburg America line HAPAG flag on the right. The tally is in good condition, showing some small holes and wear from use, and there is heavy staining across.

The album measures roughly 7 x 10” and the front cover has a great painted depiction of the Oceana, and above this to the left is an attached DAF (German Labor Front) Visor Cap badge. The interior cover has a good inscription reading Zur Erinnerung an den 2. April 1938 auf hoher See! (In memory of April 2, 1938 on the high seas!) This is followed by five written names, great research potential! The album has 29 photos and 5 different program pieces. Most of the photos are mass-produced photos of the exterior and interior of the ship, but there are a few photos of the album owner with friends. Great material overall with the classic spider-web onion paper separators.

The included bracelet has several sections on small rings with OCEANA spelled out with the HAPAG flag on one end.

A fantastic Pre-WWII set with some great research potential. Ready to display!

The Oceana had a long history, launched in 1912 and finally being broken up in 1963. During this time the ship had seven different names and saw service around the world. Her service with HAPAG began in 1927, when she was renamed the "Oceana" and then converted to a cruise ship in 1928. After 1935 she operated for the KdF-organization with a capacity of 700 passengers, doing cruises to Norway, Madeira and Genoa. In June 1939 she carried German legionnaires of the Condor Legion back home to Germany.

https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-german-pre-wwii-bevo-embroidered-cap-tally-photo-album-group-from-ship-ss-oceana-hamburg-america-line
