This is an very good service used condition example of the Model 1895 Chilean Mauser Rifle, made by the renowned LUDWIG LOEWE ARMS COMPANY of BERLIN. It shows signs of long service, but does not have any major wear or damage from abuse, and does not appear to have been actually fired much. This gives it a lovely worn patina that is simply impossible to duplicate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Ludwig Loewe company was actually part owner of \u003cem\u003eMauser Waffenfabrik\u003c\/em\u003e from 1887 onward, which is why they were the primary contractor for the export Mauser rifles. In 1896 the company consolidated its arms manufacturing, and founded \u003cem\u003eDeutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken\u003c\/em\u003e, the famous \u003cstrong\u003eD.W.M.\u003c\/strong\u003e. All rifles made 1897 onward were marked with the new company abbreviation. Therefore ANY LUDWIG LOEWE marked firearm is considered ANTIQUE by U.S. FEDERAL LAW. Most Chilean Contract M-1895 Rifles and Carbines found today are marked DWM, with examples by Ludwig Loewe being hard to find.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe left side of the receiver on this example is marked with the production information:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ccenter\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/center\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo the left of this is serial number \u003cstrong\u003eE 2273\u003c\/strong\u003e, which is also stamped on the magazine housing, magazine floor plate (73), and the stock (very faint), as is correct. The bolt is marked with serial \u003cstrong\u003eB 2275\u003c\/strong\u003e, so it was swapped out at arsenal, quite common for rifles that saw long service such as this one.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe chamber still has a crisp Chilean coat of arms marked on it, though the finish is worn, and there is a crisp Chilean coat of arms Cartouche over date \u003cstrong\u003e1895\u003c\/strong\u003e on the left side of the butt stock. The rest of the metalwork is in a similar condition, with the original bluing faded to a gray patina from years of cleaning and service. There is however still much of the \"niter blue\" finish on the magazine follower, as it is a very durable finish. The bolt, originally bright steel, now is slightly stained. The stock has a nice brown color, and shows the expected scratches, chips, and dings from long service.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe rifle cycles well, with no issues that we can see. The \"wing\" safety functions correctly, preventing firing in the \"up\" position, and preventing both cycling and firing in the \"right\" position. The bolt release works well, allowing the bolt to be removed for inspection and cleaning. The bore is in excellent condition, showing a bright finish with clear lands and grooves. There looks to be just a bit of wear, and no oxidation we can see.
