Woestendick of Hessian Oldendorf c. 1850

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic German made example of a "Combination Gun", which is double barrel gun where one side is a rifle, and the other a shotgun. This way the hunter would be prepared for both flying and running game. It is fully iron mounted, with some silver inlay around the breech of the barrels and on the lock plates. All of the fittings are nicely engraved, including an elaborate patch or cap box on the right side of the butt stock which is bears a very attractive seated stag. It also has an intricate trigger guard of iron with a wood "grip" behind it, which also has an inlaid gold fox or wolf on the bottom. Just astounding levels of craftsmanship!

The double barrels are 27 1/2" in length, with the left side being a .67" / 16 bore shotgun and the right side a .60" rifle. The gun measure 43 1/2" in overall length. The lovely walnut stock houses twin back action locks, which are marked with the makers name and location in silver inlay:

F. This town was in the Electorate of Hesse during the 19th century. We unfortunately have not been able to find anything on the listed maker, so this was most likely a bespoke item from an independent maker.

The stock has a lovely cheek piece on the left side, with a fully checkered wrist. There looks to be some repair work on the butt stock, which was cracked through in several places. This was expertly done long ago, with some new wood grafted in and carved to match the rest of the stock. The gun comes with a brass tipped ram rod, though this may be a decorative replacement.

The locks both are still functional, though the left side (shotgun) can be made to fire at half cock. For hunting in the forests of Germany during the mid 19th century, this was definitely the gun to have! This would make a magnificent wall display.

A truly great example, ready to display!

Specifications-

Year of Manufacture: circa 1850
Caliber: Double Barrel 16 Bore Shotgun and .60" rifle
Cartridge Type: Lead Shot/ball and Powder
Barrel Length: 27 1/2 Inches
Overall Length: 43 1/2 Inches
Action type: Back Action Percussion Locks
Feed System: Muzzle Loading

NOTE: International orders of antique firearms MUST be shipped using UPS WW Services (courier).
