French technical references specifically identify the design as the OF1 Mle 1915, distinguishing it from the separate French Model 1914 ball grenade.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnlike the heavy cast-iron French F1 defensive grenade, the OF1 was designed primarily to produce blast effect with relatively limited dangerous fragmentation. This made it better suited to offensive use, where the thrower might be advancing close behind the grenade and therefore needed a smaller fragment hazard than with a conventional defensive grenade.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example is offered totally inert with a deactivated internal fuse and all explosives removed per BATF specifications.
