This is a very nice original French \u003cb\u003eModel 1886\/93\/07 Lebel bayonet\u003c\/b\u003e, commonly known to collectors as the “Rosalie,” complete with its steel scabbard. The M1886 family became one of the defining French bayonet patterns of WWI and remained in service for many years afterward, including with colonial and reserve formations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bayonet design underwent many revisions during service history. The very first model is identified by a brass grip with a very small steel tang rod shown on the pommel of the bayonet. This was swiftly replaced with a Nickel-gripped version,and several other versions followed in 1893 and 1907, removing the \"hook quillon\".\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example still retains its 20 1\/2 inch long blade, with an overall length of 25 1\/4 inches. The serial numbers do not appear to be matched, with \u003cb\u003e56586 \u003c\/b\u003eon the crossguard and no number on the scabbard. The condition is overall very good. We do not see any major wear or damage to the bayonet or scabbard.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe combination of the brass grip, full 20 ½-inch cruciform blade, surviving inspection markings, numbered crossguard, complete scabbard, and very good overall condition makes this a strong representative example of the French M1886\/93\/07 bayonet family.
