These were originally issued before the Great War and were designed to be for use with the Mannlicher Berthier Infantry Rifles. It is a somewhat standard sword type bayonet, with a single edged fullered blade. The pommel design however is definitely somewhat unique, designed for a bayonet lug that fits into a round hole in the pommel of the bayonet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is an example of the second pattern, which has rivet retaining grips, and a muzzle ring that overlaps the grips slightly. It retains the longer hooked quillon, many of these were modified by having the quillon reduced in size for WWI service. There is some cracking of the vulcanized rubber grip scales around the retaining rivets. The bayonet latch is fully functional. There is a serial number on the bayonet scabbard \u003cstrong\u003eR37575\u003c\/strong\u003e, which matches the serial number on the bayonet, a good matching set!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese are becoming harder to find as time goes on, and this is definitely a very good example.
