This is a lovely MATCHED PAIR of OTTOMAN flintlock holster pistols, made to follow European lines, most having belonged to someone of significance being so well adorned. They have lovely highly carved wood stocks, and are fitted with beautiful embossed and engraved nickel alloy, which has some type of gilt finish applied to it. It does not look to be paint, but has worn away on some of the raised areas. As we often see, the muzzle areas are clad with this metal, extending back about 6 inches, and the "long-eared" butt caps are highly perforated, and are actually mostly hollow. The side plates are highly perforated as well, showing lots of different motifs. There are additional decorations around the barrel tang, on the back of the grip, and even the triggers and trigger guard are of the same type. Definitely a very high level of artistry displayed on these pistols!

There also was originally some very nice engraving on the 14 ½" barrel, which show some type of animal head as well as some other human like designs. The iron lock plate, hammer, and even the lock top jaw show similar matching type designs. Often referred to as Mediterranean Pirate's Flintlock Pistols, this pair is definitely well above that! The butt caps have the usual long ears, and the trigger guard goes almost all the way to the butt cap. The pistol measures 22" in over all length, around the length we typically see.

Copying the western Style, the pistol displays a "faux" ramrod which is not intended for use, in this case as part of the embossed gilt cladding on the muzzle end of the barrel. The actual ramrod was usually carried on a leather thong carried around the neck, so that it could not be dropped during reloading at sea or on horseback. The locks features swan neck cocks, and are is fully functional, holding at half cock and firing at full. The stock wood looks to be highly figured, though it is hard to see due to the ornamentation on the pistols. They do show some cracks and chips, as expected from pistols of this age, but nothing that detracts from the overall appearance.

This matched pair of early 19th-century Ottoman flintlock holster pistols is distinguished by its nearly identical construction, deeply carved stocks, and extensive embossed, engraved, and gilt-finished white-metal mounts. The matching decorative treatment extends across the muzzle cladding, side plates, long-eared butt caps, trigger guards, locks, and barrels, giving the pair a notably cohesive appearance. Both locks remain functional, while the worn gilding, softened engraving, and aged metal surfaces are fully evident. Their large scale, elaborate ornamentation, and surviving matched configuration give these pistols considerable historical and collector interest

Specifications (Pair):-

Year of Manufacture: Circa 1800
Caliber: .64" pistol
Ammunition Type: Lead Ball & Powder
Overall Length: 22 inches
Barrel Length: 14 ½ inches
Action: Flintlock Side Action
Feed System: Muzzle-Loaded

NOTE: International orders of antique firearms MUST be shipped using UPS WW Services (courier).
